advert analysis

Image
the biggest text on the top left and our eyes are drawn across the screen across the cake and to the tag line on the right. then back to the bottom where we see the brand logo. this follows the "z" line theory that argues that we view media in a Z motion, from top left to right then bottom left to right.  the colour of the advert is bright and lively, making the cake seem more pleasant and encouraging more people to want to buy it.  the image is anchored as the text in the top left corner is designed to match that of the cake, this makes the ad feel more like the text is made for the cake and not the other way around, it brings the focus back to the main image.  the lighting is bright but not too overexposed in order to keep the cake/ product looking crisp and sharp, the lighting is coming from the top right, creating a slight shadow on the right side of the image, making the cut open part of the cake have more depth and detail, once again drawing the viewers...

Tide advert analysis

this advert tells us the dominant ideology of the time is one where women are designed to be house wives. the focal image in this ad conforms to the dominant ideology.    this image gives away the ideas and values of the producer, it denotes that they see women from this same perspective as the majority of society at the time, inferior and below men reflecting the patriarchy.  this advert fits into Levi Strauss' theory of binary opposites for example, if the binary opposite was man vs. woman, according to gender stereotypes, the man may be portrayed to be 'strong' whereas the woman is the 'damsel in distress'. this can be shown in a kind of way that prides women of their house work compared to men who pride themselves of their office jobs, they can be seen to live binary opposite...

set product 1: Tide print advert

Image
the purpose of this advert is to get the wives a home to get this product in order to improve her life. the girl in the advert i seen to adore this product. the advert builds into the perfectionist housewife ideology, the whites need to be the whitest, the brights have to be the brightest, it makes women feel like if you aren't the perfect house wife then you are a failure as a women which is why advertisers choose to tap into and play up to these insecurities. there is a stamp guaranteed by good house keeping, a well trusted women's magazine, ensuring that they endorse this product. modes of address colour - bright red and bold, follows the z line as we are drawn to the main tagline first. codes - the hug is an embrace (action codes), this anchors the ideology of how much she loves this product. a further action code is the two w...

Codes

codes-  In communications and information processing, code is a system of rules to convert information—such as a letter, word, sound, image, or gesture—into another form or representation, sometimes shortened or secret.  symbolic codes- symbols are used to represent something else, images become associated with a certain object of a sort e.g. heart = love. Symbolic codes are repeated until the idea sticks with the associated object, the media has to show us a symbol over and over until it is ingrained in society and is easily recognisable by everyone. Proairetic/ Action codes- elements of media products that signify that something is going to happen as a result e.g. someone pulling out a gun in a movie, suggests that the gun is going to be used. this can be used to engage with the audience and entice the viewers to keep watching. Hermeneutic/ enigma codes- enigma means mystery, any mysterious part of a media product that will engage the audience in some way, will make th...

analysing a media advert                        use of bright colours is appealing to the audience, they link in with the product and the lifestyle they're trying to sell. the attire worn is loose fitting and casual but high fashion and high end looking, possibly reflecting the type of audience the brand is trying to appeal to and attract. The models are seen to have serious expressions connoting how the brand is represented, it shows that the company is expected to be take seriously. the background is still simplistic but also has something going on, it is not plain or been colour blocked out, it leaves an element of reality. close up shot of the product being shown, as well as an establishing shot of the models large cursive font- the name of the brand. no extra text is shown, kept short and simple as the brand should be recognisable and nothing extra is needed. bright colours stand out against the ...

making a short film: suspense sequence

In order to keep our ideas organised, we created a story board to start, this helped keep track of what scenes to film during the production process but also when it came to editing in post production. Filming went smoothly and we didn't encounter any problems apart from the occasional people walking through and background noise however these are easily solved, noise was edited out and multiple takes were shot to ensure we picked the best looking ones. overall i really enjoyed the short project, my favourite part was getting to use the editing technology and bringing the piece together and seeing it as we had invisioned. the link to the final product is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLnGeHTIAsY
