Exam preparation 1 - DAC introductions
my introduction paragraph to the question:
To what extent is the regulation of the videogame industry effective? Make reference to the Assassin's Creed franchise
regulation of an industry or products are rules and standards that the end product must conform to. they are put in place in order to be able to distinguish products for different niches or audiences. in order for them to be effective, they must be strictly enforced to all output of that type of media, it must be equal for all. the video game industry is regulated using the PEGI system in the uk (Pan European Game Information) it places age ratings on the games based on what they feature. for example bad language would be rated 12 whereas a game that contained graphic violence, sex and drug use would be rate an 18. take for example the assassins creed franchise, as a franchise it is aimed at the same demographic (older audiences) will have the same if not very similar age rating for all the games within it ( all 18). in order to be effective we have to look at how people can get around the regulation, for example second hand sellers of games might not follow the age regulations and sell it to anyone of any age that is willing to buy.
