Daily mail- scantily-clad-women

What/who:
  • young women for the enjoyment and pleasure of men
  • messy rooms
  • mostly or partially naked
how:
    • lexis- use of words and phrases like "sizzling snaps", "sultry snaps", "busty women". the use of phrases like this focus in on the sexualisation of purely their bodies, it detracts from the human aspects of these women, the article is presented like a gallery or display of disgrace. "shame about the bedrooms!" reflects that there is always something negative that can be picked out, "shame" connotes that it is a let down that the rooms detracts from the main view.
    • photos- expanded, limited text to go with them as the article can be seen as a disguise to blatantly post nudity, the mess in the pictures is used as an excuse to be able to get past any editors that would deem it unacceptable.
    • unmoderated comments, open to everyone to read and write
messages:
  • women are slobs, too self obssesed to take notice or care about their surroundings. dirty rooms = dirty minds.
  • open to the world for judgement- to be looked at. they are objectified.
  • young people (millennial) are bad, women are bad.
Impact:
  • open to the world, there for everyone to see, can be very damaging to young people as it can implant the idea that it is normal to look at women's bodies and judge them in this way.
  • makes young women of this bracket to feel ashamed for multiple reasons.
